This means that you can form a lobby with 2-4 players but have only one control the game while the other(s) watch/guide them. This is the case for the NES, SNES, and N64 games available. But, with the gb/gba collection, this feature is gone and multiplayer functionalities are strictly for multiplayer games.
If you really liked the new games you might want to look into getting a couple 3ds systems, there are 3 great titles to play co-op: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (for that one you would have to hack the 3ds as it’s Japan only but it did get an English release on Switch)
That's coming out this week I believe. Rebellion games tend to be third person, and they tend to require multiple systems for multiplayer. At least SE4 and Strange Brigade don’t have couch coop on the switch. To be honest, the switch lacks the horsepower to run split screen well.
Extra recommendations for party games. Mariokart 8. AstroBears - Coop Snake Game! Just Dance. Boomerang FU - Quick and easy PVP game. Pocket Mini Gold - Easy-Annoying quick golf game to play with friends. Drawful 2 - Very fun to play with groups of people! Mario Tennis Aces. Super Smash Bros.
Snipperclips is an all-around better game, but it's not going to be for everyone and only 2 people can play at a time. Bomberman appears to be solid, but it's still just Bomberman. Snipperclips can have up to 4 players. I would also argue it's a great game for everyone, I found it very goofy and light hearted. Here's some more! Luigis mansion 3. Celeste. Shovel knight: treasure trove. Sonic mania. Terraria. Shovel knight. You can also play super metroid for Nintendo switch online for a fantastic first time meteoid experience. Obviously it would be better to play them in order, but it's not a big deal. Might change, but idk. Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up. All games on local WiFi will work with Ryujinx which has a network compatibility mode. You can play any local WiFi game on Switch and emulate Switch on the SD. Local Wireless (as in close range non-internet based games), is just a switch thing. Paw Patrol on a Roll (5yo) : action platformer, great for young kids. Unravel Two : puzzle platformer. Racing games (7yo) : Forza, Gran Turismo, F1, NFS Hot Pursuit, Dirt, etc. Rarely on Switch. A Hat in Time : 3d platformer, cute for kids but the second player is limited a bit. All of the [console] online games support online play with friends (assuming the original game was multiplayer to start with). It's such a great and overlooked feature. Really looking forward to playing Pokemon stadium online. 3.1K votes, 278 comments. 5.3M subscribers in the NintendoSwitch community.
It's not a perfect solution, but trading one of your switch lites for a regular/oled switch would add more options. I primarily play my OG switch in handheld, and plopping it into the dock to play multiplayer games that have split screen is a nifty option. There are some games that take advantage of the handheld screen for 1-console multiplayer.
Super Bomberman 2, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Contra 3, and my personal favorite, Top Gear. And never mind the nonexhaustive possibilities of all the single player games still not on there you could trade off or just watch your friend play or vice-versa.
