Diesel particulate filters (DPF) are installed in many post-2007 vehicle exhausts to reduce emissions by eliminating soot and ash. However, soot and ash do build up in the filter over time. Often this can be removed using active regeneration or cleaning additives, but sometimes professional cleaning by a mechanic is necessary.
2 years ago , this vehicle was part of BMW emissions recall , and have not had any problems to speak of since then. I checked the fault code today, P2458; diesel particulate filter regeneration duration. I cleared the fault drove it 5 miles, and the light did not reappear.

Just a bunch of 8mm and 10mm nuts and bolts. 2) Remove the front bash plate (#3).

Basically it became an Euro X5 35D with DPF and CAT still working, but no more DEF BS. X5 E70 Euro diesels have same SRC system, except the problematic DEF system added in the NA model. There you go, fixed it once and forever, no more messy DEF fluid and expensive emission repairs. Completed project cost $600.
